NAZARENE CHILDREN’S HOME

FOUNDER: The late Mr Nyawire.
CURRENTLY RUN BY: co-founder Mrs. Consolata Nyawire (wife) and Mr. Julius Owino (son)
The home was started in the year 2004 by the late Mr. Nyawire and his wife who is mother to Mr Julius Owino who runs the home and school together with his other brother. It was later registered in 2007.
The home cares for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in Soweto. The home provide shelter, feeding program and education for the children.
Home is located in the Soweto slums area and has really assisted in rescue of kids from engaging in drug abuse and alcohol. The mission of the home is to provide a holistic care with a view of reducing poverty among the inhabitants in Soweto and bringing up a healthy educated community to contribute in development of our nation. This can only be achieved by provision of Education, medical services, feeding and giving accommodation to these disadvantaged children.
The home has 46 children; of which 28 are girls and 18 are boys. The ages ranges from 2 years to 19 years.
Located on a family owned plot where there are 2 rooms one for boys and one for girls, a kitchen and hall which is used as library and as a dining hall.
The home depends on Mr Julius who used to work as a driver. He later stopped working to focus on assisting his mother to run the home and school. The home has no donors and currently depends on well-wishers.
The founder of the home was well known to the Soweto society as he assisted several individuals to a point where he constructed a school where the children from the home as well as children from the nearby society from needy families could school The school is currently closed due to Covid-19.
CURRENT REQUIREMENTS:
1. Foodstuffs like Maize flour, cooking oil, wheat flour, beans, porridge flour, sugar, salt, tea leaves, rice
2. Detergents, Soap, tissues sanitary towels, Vaseline, pampers
3. Kitchen utensils like Sufuria, plates, sinia, spoon, cups, pans, firewood
4. Blankets, mattresses, cloths, beds
5. Iron sheets, firewood
For long term sustainability we can also buy a 2000ltr tank which can replace the current one that is leaking
